Offending behaviour programmes  Task

Offending behaviour programmes (OBPs) are courses to help you change how you think, feel (your attitude) and behave so you won’t re-offend in the future. The court may order you to enrol in a programme as part of your sentence. It could also be a part of your community order or a condition of your release from prison. OBPs are widely offered in prisons and are an important part of the parole process.

A prison sentence is one of the punishments a judge or magistrate can issue if a person is found guilty of a crime. Prison sentences can also be called ‘custodial sentences’.  

What are the different types of Temporary Licence that prisoners can be released under?  Task  How do I? 

Release on Temporary Licence (ROTL) means being able to leave prison for a short period of time.

What does being ‘on licence’ mean?  Task  How do I? 

Being released ‘on licence’ means that you’re freed from prison before your sentence is complete, but you must stick to a set of rules for the rest of your sentence. These rules are known as the licence conditions.  

What does being released on Temporary Licence mean?  Task  How do I? 

Release on Temporary Licence (ROTL) means being able to leave prison for a short period of time. The Temporary Licence is the permission that allows you to leave, and the type of Licence indicates the reason the permission was granted. 

What happens if I get ill when I am in prison?  Task  How do I? 

If you get ill in prison, you will receive the same healthcare and treatment as anyone outside of prison.  

What happens to my home if I go to prison?  Task  How do I? 

If you have offended and are sent to prison, it doesn’t mean you will have to lose your home. There are things you can do to keep your home, whether you own it or rent it.

What is the food like in prison?  Task

When you are in prison, you will be given three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), one of which will be a hot meal. 

What is the Incentives and Earned Privileges Scheme (IEPS)?  Task

The Incentives and Earned Privileges Scheme (IEPS) is a scheme that allows prisoners to earn extra privileges.
