Advice for people in prison
The Prisoners’ Advice Service telephone advice line is run by caseworkers four days a week. The telephone number is cleared within all prisons throughout England and Wales.

The Prison Reform Trust run an advice and information service which provides free information about prison life, rules and regulations and prisoners’ rights. They also give advice and assistance (they are unable to give legal advice).

The Prisoner’s Education Trust provides access to learning opportunities for people in prison to enhance their chances of building a better life after release. They provide a grants programme assisting prisoners to study distance learning courses not available in prison.

The Howard League for Penal Reform is a national charity working for less crime, safer communities and fewer people in prison. They run a helpline offering advice on a range of issues affecting young people in custody

Advice for families of people in prison
The National Prisoners’ Families Helpline can support you if you have a family member or loved one who is in contact with the criminal justice system in England and Wales. It is open Monday to Friday 9 am – 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 3 pm.

Advice for people with a criminal record
Unlock provides a voice and support for people who are facing stigma and obstacles because of their criminal record. Unlock’s website includes lots of useful resources and information for people with convictions including a disclosure calculator.

Nacro’s Justice team works with young people and adults in prisons and in the community. Nacro offers a wide range of services for a variety of different client groups to support people to change their lives and to prevent and reduce crime and the risk of reoffending.
