The TAB is a non-departmental public body which was first established under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) and now maintained under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (IPA), with members appointed by the Secretary of State.

TAB is an advisory non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Home Office.
