Offending behaviour programmes Task
Offending behaviour programmes (OBPs) are courses to help you change how you think, feel (your attitude) and behave so you won’t re-offend in the future. The court may order you to enrol in a programme as part of your sentence. It could also be a part of your community order or a condition of your release from prison. OBPs are widely offered in prisons and are an important part of the parole process.
The police are at my house with a warrant, what are my rights? Task
The police have powers to enter and search your home. Usually, this requires a warrant, but there are some instances where the police can enter your home without a warrant.
Types of prison sentences Task
A prison sentence is one of the punishments a judge or magistrate can issue if a person is found guilty of a crime. Prison sentences can also be called ‘custodial sentences’.
What are the different types of Temporary Licence that prisoners can be released under? Task
Release on Temporary Licence (ROTL) means being able to leave prison for a short period of time.
What does being ‘on licence’ mean? Task
Being released ‘on licence’ means that you’re freed from prison before your sentence is complete, but you must stick to a set of rules for the rest of your sentence. These rules are known as the licence conditions.
What does being released on Temporary Licence mean? Task
Release on Temporary Licence (ROTL) means being able to leave prison for a short period of time. The Temporary Licence is the permission that allows you to leave, and the type of Licence indicates the reason the permission was granted.
What happens if I get ill when I am in prison? Task
If you get ill in prison, you will receive the same healthcare and treatment as anyone outside of prison.
What happens in a Crown Court? Task
Crown Court deals with serious criminal cases, such as murder, rape, or robbery.
What happens in a magistrates’ court? Task
A magistrate is a volunteer from the local area who is trained to deal with less serious criminal cases. The cases are considered by 2 or 3 magistrates or a district judge. A district judge is a lawyer.
